I used to work in the video game and pinball industry. Those of you who have played pinball are familiar with targets that are worth more "when lit". Play a little pinball with me.
Please note, I cannot control the lighting for these items. The information below is the best I could ascertain. If the illumination starts or stops at a different time than noted, it is out of my hands. I MAY make an allowance if NO ONE was able to get the item when lit.
Black Hawk
No, not the hockey team. In Lowden State Park there is a very large statue of Black Hawk. Lowden is about 1.5 miles north of Illinois 64 on CR 33, near Oregon IL. If the park is closed, you can get a picture from Illinois 2 on the other side of the river. The statue is illuminated dusk to dawn.

Buckingham Fountain
Buckingham Fountain is a beautiful and historic Chicago landmark on the lake. It's at the corner of Congress Avenue (east of Interstate 290) and Lake Shore Drive (US 41). It was once operated manually by men who operated the valves and rheostats below the fountain. Later, computer control was introduced. Honeywell eventually moved the computer on which it runs to Georgia. Finally, a small computer was installed locally to run the constantly changing flumes of water and colors of light.
The lights are on from 9:00 to 11:00 PM.

Gateway Arch
OK, I had to do it. In St. Louis, Missouri, they light up the arch at night. It's hard to miss.

The Jack Tollett Memorial Bonus
Those Texans think they INVENTED oil. On the north side of Olney, on Illinois 130, is a monument to the folks that kept Olney an oil town. At night, they light the oil derrick.

Points when lit: 630
Newton
With a theme like "glow in the dark", I just couldn't pass up a name like "Newton". There's a veteran's memorial in Newton on Illinois Route 33, just west of Illinois 130. It's lit roughly from dusk to dawn.

Onarga
Onarga isn't a large town. The clerk also runs the barber shop. It's just that kind of place. But they do have a BIG sign, right on US 45 at Illinois 54. They light it up at night.

Portage National Monument
I'm told this is a valid National Parks tour location (although you must obtain the stamp at the "Little Red Schoolhouse" some miles away). They close the gates at dusk, butt you can still get a photo of the monument through the gates. It's in Forest View Illinois, on the west side of Illinois 43 (Harlem Avenue) just north of Interstate 55. They light this up at night.

Scoville Park
In Oak Park, my own home town, there's a veteran's memorial in Scoville Park. The park is about ½ mile east of Illinois 43 on Lake Street. The monument is toward the north side of the park, and is lit dusk to dawn.

Urban Tower
Cermak Plaza is in Berwyn, on the southeast corner of Illinois Route 43 (Harlem) and 22nd Street. In that plaza's parking lot are quite a number of art pieces, primarily sculpture, all with signs describing the piece and its creator. On the East side of the parking lot, near 22nd street, is a sculpture named "Urban Towers". It is illuminated from about dusk until about 10:00 PM.

OK, Ok, ok. Enough with the weird timing. Here are some "normal" photo bonuses:
ALIENS!
Well, college students anyway, and that's close enough for me. And look at their stadium! In Champaign Illinois, there is one odd-looking stadium! It's bounded by 1st and 4th streets on the west and east, and by Kirby and St. Mary's Road on the North and South. It's about ½ mile east of US 45.
Points: 210
Fermilab
The have a big particle accelerator. They found the Top Quark. They have a large pen of American Bison (buffalo). And they have a large weird three-legged sculpture at the west entrance off Kirk Road. From Interstate 88, go 3 1/3 miles north on Farnsworth Road (which turns into Kirk road) and take a picture of that odd thing.
Points: 207
Glow a different way
Across from the south entrance to the Illinois State Fair is a bar called Jimmez. They're open from 3:00 PM until 1:00 AM. Stop by, say "Hi" to my friend Jim (or the bartender if Jim isn't there) and pick up one of their cards.
Points: 250
Glow in a bad way
In the center of Crescent City Illinois, right on US 42, is a historical marker. Find out how Crescent City glowed in the dark and take a photo of the marker.
Points: 185
In your own element
At Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, there is a rather unique sculpture of the periodic table of the elements. The museum, at Lake Shore Drive (US 41) and 57th Street, is open 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. As you enter from the main entrance, go straight back and to the right into the "green" staircase. Get a photo of your rally flag next to the matching element in the sculpture.
Points: 535
Kerr-McGee Cleanup Site
There was a West Chicago plant that made parts for gas lanterns. Part of that process was the use of thorium. Radioactive thorium. And a LOT of that thorium ended up in the ground on the site of the plant and in the yards of homes. Kerr-McGee acquired the company which was responsible for this mess, and inherited the cleanup. So, at the corner of Ann Street and what USED to be Factory Street, there are a lot of large machines making a very big hole in the ground. From Illinois 38, go about a mile North on Joliet Street, about a quarter mile west on Ann, and take a photo of the big hole.
Points: 135
Land of the Midnight Sun
OK, that's SORTOF like glow-in-the-dark. Get a photo of the city limits sign of Hyder Alaska. Then give me a call so I know you're ok. Better yet, call me first, you'll be so late another couple minutes won't change your score.
Points: 57385
Lead Mine and Museum
If you're going to be around all these radioactive things, you probably ought to protect yourself. Lead is a good choice. Go to Vinegar Hill and take a photo of the sign about the retired lead miner. The Lead Mine and Museum is located in beautiful Vinegar Hill. Go north from Galena Illinois, and continue about 3 ½ miles north on Illinois 84 after it splits from US 20. Go about a mile east on Furlong, then go north on three pines road to Vinegar Hill.
Points: 264
If you can get there when the mine and museum is open (something at which I haven't succeeded) buy a souvenir piece of lead crystal (get a receipt). I'll give you 100 points for every nuclear plant you visit AFTER picking up the souvenir.
Points: 0 to 700
Manhattan Project Birthplace
It all started right here in Chicago. Take a photo of the squash courts at 54th street and Cottage Grove Avenue. This is where the first sustained nuclear chain reaction occurred.
Points: 157
Manhattan Project Graveyard
Well, it has to be buried SOMEWHERE! Where better than… the forest preserve? Red Gate Woods contains the burial plot of the Manhattan Project. The woods are closed at dusk, butt you can get a photo of the "Red Gate Woods" sign any time.
Points: 201
Ottawa
Luminous Dial and Radium Dial companies hired dozens of Ottawa women to paint clock and watch faces with radium-laced paint. They even taught the women to use their lips to get a better point on the paintbrushes. Later, many of those women suffered from cancer. The buildings have since been torn down, but the legacy remains. Get a fuel receipt in Ottawa.
Points: 197
Resurrection Mary
There's a story that a beautiful hitchhiker wanders Illinois 171 between Willowbrook and Justice Illinois. A driver will pick her up, and she'll have him (I don't recall this ever happening with a female driver) drive until they reach the gates of Resurrection Cemetery. The hitchhiker disappears, and the seat where she sat is wet. Resurrection Cemetery is in Justice on Illinois 171 about a mile east of US 12. Get a photo of the gate (you didn't think I'd throw a rally without a cemetery bonus, did you?).
Points: 153
Bring Resurrection Mary back to the finish (does she even ride pillion?)
Points: 15300
Safe At Home
There's a reason I live in Oak Park. With all these nukes, it's nice to live in a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone. Don't believe me? Take a photo of the sign on the traffic light pole on the northwest corner of Austin Boulevard and Harrison Street. It's only about a block north of Interstate 290, and the Austin exit is about 1 ½ miles east of Illinois 43 (Harlem Avenue).
Points: 185
Savanna
Commonwealth Edison wanted to put a nuclear power plant in Savanna Illinois, butt so far it hasn't happened. Get a gas receipt there and show your support.
Points: 417
Starved Rock State Park
Go south on Main in Ottawa and across the bridge. Head about 10 miles west and find the main entrance to Starved Rock State Park. Take a photo of the entrance (last time I went by, the entrance itself was closed for construction. You can still get a photo, though.) OK, I know I stole this from the other route, but just do it, OK?

You can take a dozen photos of the one in the leopard bikini, butt I'm only going to count her once.
